Dedication

"To Mr. (Robert) Treadway and Mrs. (Ellis) Echols, we dedicate the 1956 edition of our yearbook. Mr. Treadway, with his quiet patience and understanding, and Mrs. Echols, with her willingness to always lend a helping hand, have been examples for us each hectic, happy day of our high school life."

"Dorothy Hartline was selected as the 1955 Football Queen by the football players of SHS. She was crowned November 11 at the Homecoming Game between Summerville and Lakeview. Her attendants were Sue Hughes, Joyce Hale, and Patsy King."

Senior officers were secretary Beulah Woods, vice-president Hugh Bohannon, historian Jimmie Fowler, president Morris Hogg, and treasurer Anita Butler.

The Senior Library Club was sponsored by Mrs. Echols. Its purpose was to "sponsor a greater interest among the students in the use of books and library service, to stimulate reading interest, to improve the library service of the school."

The 1956 SHS Baseball team included (front row, L-R) James Hancock, L.C. Smith, Franklin Woods, Ralph Hill, and Billy Denson; (back row) Coach Charles Millican, Rodney Teague, Dan Hawkins, Hugh Brown, Emory Gilmer, Sam Ragland, Johnny Echols, and manager Raymond Waters.
