In 1960, the biggest snow and ice storm in 20 years hit Chattooga County.  As evidence, here are several photographs taken in Menlo by an unknown photographer.

Note the 60 miles per hour sign on this road leading into Menlo.

Menlo Presbyterian Church can be seen in the left background.  Roads were closed, telephones were out of service, and schools shut down for several days in 1960.

The sign says, "Fill it up?" but there are few customers on the road.
