On Saturday, February 17, 1962, a large crowd gathered at the Triangle Shopping Center in Trion for a drawing to win a Ford Falcon. The crowd was estimated in excess of four thousand people. Cars were parked as far north as the traffic light on Old U.S. Highway 27, and on the new stretch of Highway 27 up to the substation.

The drawing was held by the Triangle Merchants Association.
Howard
Smith, a Third Shift employee at the Carding Department of nearby
Riegel Textile Mill, was the winner. He is shown sitting in his new
car, presented by Tip McCollum, president of the Triangle Merchants
Association. Traffic took 45 minutes to clear after the drawing.
