On the afternoon of Sunday, August 21, 1966, parents and friends of Trion High School's marching band bid the students farewell as the band headed to New York City to participate in a VFW convention and parade scheduled for Tuesday. Two Greyhound busses hauled the kids and chaperones to the Big Apple and back. VFW Post 6688 of Chattooga County contributed $500 for the youngster's transportation.
