Small-town Fourth of July celebrations are as American as Mom, baseball, and apple pie. Here are some photographs taken by T. Emmett Nunn in Trion.

All the kids enjoy riding with "Big Wink" McWhorter on his fire engine.

Miss Chattooga County, Teresa McCurdy, rides in an Austin-Healey.

Mrs. Chattooga County, Linda Owens, waves atop a Ford convertible driven by Hansel Baker.

Patriotic kids show off their bicycles. From left to right: (in background) Marilyn Rush and Jan Brown. The kids with bikes are unidentified.

Wallace Clark (left) won the 100-yard dash against L.D. Ludy.

The 100-yard dash in the 13 to 14-year-old boys category was won by Ronnie Hughes. Bill Humphrey came in second, followed by Deck Laws in third. Onlookers included (second from left) Sidney Landers; his grandmother, Mrs. Jackie Cooper; and grandfather, Chief Cooper.

What better way to cool off than with a snow cone!
