The Shop-Rite Super Market opened on February 16, 1967 in a 12,000 square foot building located on Highway 48 in Summerville (now behind the CVS Pharmacy on Highway 27). The site was owned by Fred Aldred of Summerville, with construction by Bishop & Busbin.

The store was the seventh built by the Ft. Oglethorpe corporation. Doyle Waters was the first store manager.
