Alfred "Shorty" Cash (left) and Fay Maxey were good friends and great baseball players, with Fay pitching and Alfred catching.
Fay Maxey (left) was born in 1894, one of eleven children. He is considered by many to be one of the most gifted baseball pitchers ever to come out of Chattooga County.
Maxey died in a 1921 accident while working on a power line as a utility worker.
Cash was the father of former Summerville Mayor Sewell Cash. "Shorty" died in 1960 at the age of 68.
